Season 6 Episode 8
Dos and Donts of All You Can Eat Sushi And Asian Buffets

Fish, rice, great appetizers - that’s what all you can eat sushi and Asian buffets will offer to you. If you’ve listened to us before, you know exactly how passionate we are about maximizing your AYCE experience. Listen in as we show you exactly how we tackle this… fishy…. situation?

Focus On The Sashimi

We’ve said this before - always focus on the items that will bring you value! Of all the all-you-can-eats, sushi is the easiest to succumb to the carb rule. For most of these places, you can always opt in to just go with the sashimi. As tempting as the rolls and nigiris look, save them for the end so you can eat your fill of the expensive, quality fish and other delicious appetizers that usually cost a pretty penny at restaurants!

Be Careful How You Order

Like most all you can eat places, there is a strategy to ordering. With sushi, its important to understand how much you will be eating per round so you can maximize on your variety of dishes to try while staying just under the limit of over-ordering. Though many of the places we’ve been to never charged us for uneaten food, you never know if they will and nobody wants to pay that extra fee. As mentioned in the tip above, focus on the carbless items first then finish off with the rolls and fillers you wanted to eat.

Tackling Asian Buffets

Asian buffets can be a treasure trove of delicious foods or a death trap of food poisoning waiting to happen. Most of these buffets push variety and quantity, so you really have to look deep in order to find the high value items. Typically, the cooked seafood options are always a safe choice - steamed oysters, stirfried clams, crab legs, etc. At higher end buffets, you may even find good quality sashimi and other raw seafoods, but you definitely have to be able to tell the good from the bad. One bad oyster can really do some damage! Have fun with the Asian buffet! It’s a great way to try a bunch of different foods and they generally are not terrible.
