Season 5 Episode 5
Love Languages And Family Values Ft. Mahzer
We all know how different each Asian culture is from each other, but how does that affect romantic relationships between different Asians? We were joined by Mahzer, Veronica’s partner, to help elaborate on the details of what it is like to be dating Veronica, who is Chinese, and experiencing a familiar yet very different culture.
Love Languages
Though cultures can be different, love languages are universally understood. In this episode, we extensively use love language examples as a way to convey how unique, cultural upbringings create variation in ways people can express love. For a full explanation of everyone’s love language, listen in on the episode!
“Saving Face”
The concept of “face” is unique to certain East Asian groups. In short, “Face” can best be described as one’s respect, aka “street cred”. For example, when a guest comes over and is hungry, that is a poor reflection of the host and his inability to feed the guest. It’s definitely a confusing concept, but is important for this week’s episode as Mahzer describes certain actions and reactions from Veronica’s parents that may seem foreign.
As always, listen in on the episode for the full details!
