Season 10 Episode 3
How We Eat On Budget, Maximizing Your Dollar On Food

Eating well doesn’t mean you have to eat expensive! Don’t let Whole Foods or Farmers Market prices fool you, you can definitely eat well, healthy, and always feel full if you just know where to shop. Here are some tips and tricks to help you maximize your dollar!

Buy Everything on Promo

It might be a hassle to hunt for deals, but that extra effort can save you a couple of dollars! Many fast food corporations will put out weekly deals where you can buy family meals for under $25 dollars. If you have a family - great! If not, that’s okay too! If you live solo dolo, you can still take advantage of these family meal deals and spread your food out for a few days. Popeyes is one of our favorite fast food chains to do this and you can take advantage of their family deals by showing them online coupons.

Buy Your Groceries

This is an age old tip, but in practice, is actually a lot harder than what most people think. The main thing about shopping for groceries is you should always commit to your groceries. What that means is you should not spend $100 on 2 weeks worth of groceries and STILL go out and eat. As much as it’s hard to turn your friend down for brunch on Sundays, this doubles up your cost and makes your budgeting not so budget anymore. Regardless if you shop expensive or buy bruised goods in chinatown for pennies, commit to your purchase before you go and eat out!

Eat Asian

Vietnamese and Chinese food are synonymous with being affordable. Don’t get us wrong, we said its affordable, not cheap (and you can find out more about this topic here). Gone might be the days of $3.50 lunch boxes in chinatown where they give you 3 days worth of food and a soup… but you can still find the same portions for $5 or $6 (Talk about keeping up with inflation). If you’re lucky enough to be by a Asian super market with a hot deli section (Think Ranch 99), some might even let you load up on steam table goodies for dollars!
